Metazoan specialises in unearthing lost or rarely seen photographic archives that record epic shifts in our cultural, political and social history by the history makers themselves – the photographers who were there, at the right time and in the right place to capture our history in the making.
It is the new venture by Robin Morgan, award winning journalist, author and documentary maker, who was the longest serving
editor-in-chief of The Sunday Times Magazine, for over 19 years,
After quitting journalism he founded Iconic Images in a London basement to help some of the world’s leading photographers showcase and catalogue their work and built an international photographic art business that sold in 2021 for US $30m.
Since then Morgan has focussed on seeking out lost archives, publishing and documentary making. He has co-authored, edited
or created more than 30 books on culture, crime and conflict and
his book Bullion was the basis for the Paramount BBC drama series The Gold, He was the image consultant on the Nedland/Amblin/HBO documentary Faye which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024 and currently has two more documentaries in pre-production.
Morgan says: “it’s my goal to unearth still pictures that move, one negative that can tell a story and take us on an emotional journey,
as a piece of art that hangs in a museum, a home or indeed can inspire a documentary feature film that enlightens and reveals.”
